FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GBFFL 2009 opening day in the books

May 25, 2009 - The 2009 GBFFL season kicked off with a bang yesterday, with five teams finishing the day with perfect 2-0 records. American Glass Block won their first game by a score of 33-0 over The Clarence Red Devils. In their second game American Glass Block defeated 2008 GBFFL recreational division finalists, ACDC by a score of 20-6. Quarterback Tim Bailey led American Glass Block with several highlight reel long passes. The Purple Parrots stormed their way through the first day, led by Quarterback Dan Fritz and receiver/defensive back Scott Miranto. The Purple Parrots defeated 2009 GBFFL competitive division semi-finalists, Buffalo Braves, by a score of 34-21 and Team Beast Mode, 36-8. Buffalo Soldiers, W.H. Greene and Associates and Sherkston B's all finished the day 2-0 and took a big step towards qualifying for the competitive playoffs (the top 8 teams at the end of the regular season qualify for the competivite playoffs while the bottom 4 qualify for the recreational playoffs).

American Glass Block (2-0) claimed the top spot in the standings by way of their +47 point differential. The Purple Parrots (2-0) found themselves in second place by way of their +43 point differential, followed by Buffalo Soldiers 2-0, +33, W.H. Greene and Associates, 2-0, +29 and Sherkston B's 2-0, +9. Although W.H. Greene and Associates is in fourth place in the standings they are once again the "leader of the pack" as they defeated two good teams, convincingly. W.H. Greene and Associates, who won the 2008 GBFFL championship, defeated Francize by a score of 24-14 in their first game, which was impressive, considering the fact that Francize was the 2008 GBFFL recreational division champions. W.H. Greend and Associates closed out their day with a 33-14 victory over Zoombang, a team who beat them last year in their first match-up.

The GBFFL season continues with week 2 action, this Sunday May 31, 2009 at Kunz Field located on the University at Buffalo North Campus. Games begin at 10:00 A.M. and conclude at 2:40 P.M., spectators are welcome and admission is free.
