W.H. Greene & Associates wins showdown against American Glass Block

June 22, 2009 - W.H. Greene and Associates improved to 11-0 Sunday, with three wins. Greene defeated Team Beast Mode and The Angry Aardvarks by scores of 33-0 and 41-0, respectively, before facing American Glass Block in a match-up of 8-0, undefeated teams. Greene showed why they have been the dominant team in the GBFFL over the past two seasons as they methodically out gunned American Glass Block, and walked away with a 27-20 victory. Francize also won three games and kept a strong hold on third place in the GBFFL standings. Zoombang and Buffalo Soldiers both won two games on Sunday and moved up the GBFFL standings.

A correction was made in last weeks (week #4) "Official of the Year Award" as Pete Farrell should have received a 100%. The officials did not fare well in the week #5 quiz, as all four officials got both questions wrong. Both questions with the answers are listed below.
1. How is it determined which team starts with the ball in overtime?
Answer: The team that did not call the opening coin toss, calls the first coin toss in overtime.
2. What happens if the score is tied at the end of the 1st overtime?
Answer: The team that did not call the opening coin toss will call the overtime coin toss.

Marty Cambell stands alone in first place in the overall "Official of the Year Award" standings with a cumulative score of 91.5%, with Pete Farrell in second place with a score of 80%. The GBFFL announced the implementation of the Official of the Year award on May 25, 2009 as a way to recognize those officials who perform at a high level. At the conclusion of each GBFFL game day each official takes a written quiz on the rules, with those results counting for 50% of the "Official of the Year" standings. At the conclusion of the regular season each team captain shall vote for their choice for "Official of the Year", which will comprise the other 50% of the standings. The "Official of the Year" shall recieve a GBFFL trophy and $125. The official who comes in second in the voting shall receive $50. Officials must offciate at least 6 regular season games (there are two games each game day) and take the quiz each day that they officiate in order to be eligible. The weekly leaders for the "Official of the Year" will be posted on the GBFFL website, within the weekly stories.

The GBFFL season continues with week 6 action, this Sunday June 28, 2009 at Kunz Field located on the University at Buffalo North Campus. Games begin at 10:00 A.M. and conclude at 2:40 P.M., spectators are welcome and admission is free.
