2009 GBFFL regular season draws to a close

June 30, 2009 - W.H. Greene and Associates, Francize, Zoombang and Purple Parrots all won 2 games on Sunday and ensured their place in the GBFFL competitive playoffs. Greene defeated Sherkston B's by a score of 41-12 and ACDC 40-7, to improve to 13-0. Greene, the 2008 GBFFL champions, also solidified their spot as the #1 seed for the playoffs, as their 13-0 record is a league best. Francize moved from 3rd to 2nd in the GBFFL standings by defeating American Glass Block 19-0 and Team Beast Mode by a score of 40-13. Zoombang, which is thought by many to be a darkhorse in the GBFFL playoffs, maintained their 4th place spot in the standings by defeating Buffalo Braves and Buffalo Soldiers by scores of 20-6 and 19-18, respectively. Purple Parrots cemented their place in the competitive playoffs by defeating Raiders by a score of 22-0 and Clarence Red Devils 36-7.

The results of the week #6 "Official Of The Year Award" quiz will be held until the award winner is announced prior to the GBFFL competitive finals on July 5, 2009. The GBFFL announced the implementation of the Official of the Year award on May 25, 2009 as a way to recognize those officials who perform at a high level. At the conclusion of each GBFFL game day each official takes a written quiz on the rules, with those results counting for 50% of the "Official of the Year" standings. At the conclusion of the regular season each team captain shall vote for their choice for "Official of the Year", which will comprise the other 50% of the standings. The "Official of the Year" shall recieve a GBFFL trophy and $125. The official who comes in second in the voting shall receive $50. Officials must offciate at least 6 regular season games (there are two games each game day) and take the quiz each day that they officiate in order to be eligible.

The GBFFL playoffs kick off on Sunday July 5, 2009 at Kunz Field located on the University at Buffalo North Campus. Games begin at 10:00 A.M. and conclude at 2:40 P.M., spectators are welcome and admission is free.
