Week 6 American Glass Block Mess-ups

Archived Video

I personally did not play great on saturday. I missed flags, didnt knock balls down that I should have, missed some open receivers etc. I have watched the tapes many times. I have put some plays on this film that contain mistakes from players on our team so that you can see the mistakes, so that you can correct them for august 17th. Believe me, I am not pointing fingers, I am not happy with my performance. It is not practical for us to have a film session to go over this shit, the easiest way to do this is for me to put this on here for US only.

Play #1: A (the left receiver) and B (the center) were supposed to run 4 and 5 yards, stop, turn around and set picks. Neither player did that. Both tried to get "open", even though the play is not designed to go to them. The result was that the corner covering player "C" did NOT get picked, therefore player C was covered, and the QB was sacked. You have to run the play, exactly as the sheet dictates. You cannot inject your own wisdom into the play or it will not work.

Play #2: We were on defense. The Braves were backed up on the previous play and now faced a 3rd and 32!!! Yes, a 3rd and 32. They could not get a TD, they could only get a TD. Our objective was to guard the goalline, and not let the ball go over our head. The Safety played the ball like a pussy and swiped at it when his left hand when he should have gone up with two hands, with more authority. The left corner did not back up enough. The left corner was too close to the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball. Additonally the left corner started to run up to cover a 20 yard pattern when the QB pumped. This is not sound as we will always give up 20 yard patterns in 3rd and 32. After the corner started to come up the receiver ran behind him and caught the ball over the corners head. In this situation put your feet on the goalline and wait, dont run UP ever.

Play #3: Receiver A takes a couple jog steps, as the play sheet dictates. To clarify why I put the jog steps on the sheet for this play,,,If there is a corner outside player A, covering player C then player A jogs for two steps to pick the corner. IF there is no corner to pick player A just runs hard. Also, the two jog steps on the shee cannot turn into 4 or 5 fast walk steps as they did in this play. You only jog one of two steps to pick the corner, then you run as fast as you can. After jogging player A then made an our move on the corner, we dont have time for all that. If you look at the video, the QB was about to be sacked as player A was making his out move. We must run harder, there is no time. The rusher starts 7 yards back, the qb is 7 yards back, that means the rusher runs 14 yards to the QB. It does not take long to run 14 yards.

Play #4: Player A makes a nice catch and turns the ball up nicely. If you watch the highlight videos the best way to get by people is to turn sideways and offer them your front. If you turn sideways the defender will only be able to grab your stomach and you will get by them. None of us have played enought flag in recent years to have picked this up but we need to.

Play #5: The rusher in this play ran into myers on purpose and screwed us, the ref blew the call. We need to make sure we are extra careful not to let the rusher run into us to get calls. There were other times that we cut in front of the rusher and he stopped, which should be a penalty on us. Please understand that if you have a route that goes in front of the rusher YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM RIGHT OF WAY.

Play #6: WHAT IS THIS FORMATION? WE DO NOT HAVE THIS FORMATION IN OUR PLAYBOOK. When we run twins the two receivers are close enough to touch each other and are lined up half way between the sideline and the center. Please get this right.

Play #7: If you watch the beginning of this play I had to convince kevin to move in closer. We seem to always be confused on the formations. Player C on this play was supposed to be only 5 yards deep at the end of his route but he was at 12, which put him too close to player C and allowed the defense to easily cover both of them. Please look at the yardage on the sheet which related to your route and run that exact yardage. The yardage is specified for good reason. You run your route sometimes JUST to bring a defender with you to spread them out, to make the defender choose one player to guard. If you alter your yardage you may allow one defender to cover two people, which often times will lead to an incomplete pass or interception.

Play #8: What is this formation? We dont have it in our playbook. Messed up formation, resulted in a messed up play and a safety. Please look at the sheet.

Play #9: The corner comes over with a lax jog, and the smart team we were playing simply threw the ball before he jogged all the way over. Not only did he jog, but he did not even keep his eyes on the receiver. Notice the other corner jogged over with his eyes on the receiver so that he would be ready.

Play #10: When you rush the QB please dont raise your hands or jump. On this play our rusher raised his hands and jumped a little, the QB faked and stepped up and had enough time to throw a deeper ball. The QB tried to throw to a player who was previously covered but the player broke loose with the extra time that was gained by his pump fake and the subsequent hand raise and jump by our rusher. Our rusher should just run at the QB, break down before arriving and never go for the fake.
